200 -- amount of terawatt-hours saved annually by the gradual switch to more efficient refrigerators in the USA (see chart above).
80 -- roughly the number of extra power plants that the USA would need without these efficiency improvements.
7 -- that's the percentage of GDP that is spent on energy in the USA. Energy intensity per unit of GDP has been decreasing about about 2% per year in the USA, and about 1.5% per year overall on the planet.

Wow. What a great way to show how everyone doing their little part really adds up. Now I just need to convince the parents to get rid of the second fridge, or at least replace it soon with a smaller and more efficient one...

My wife thought we should keep our old fridge and put it in the basement to use with our bar.
"Why?" I asked. "For most of the year we can just keep the drinks under the porch and they'll be plenty cold. And they've got mini fridges at CostCo for like $100."
